The door is getting noisier. Grinding, screeching, rattling or a heavy clunk each time it moves.
The door judders or jerks on the way up instead of travelling smoothly.
The door sits crooked, in the frame, or one side lifts before the other.
The door is heavy to lift by hand, with the motor disengaged. A properly balanced door should lift with one hand and stay where you leave it.
The motor sounds like it is straining, or it is getting slower and louder over time.
The door will not stay open, and drifts down on its own.
The remote needs two or three presses, or only works up close.

My door works fine. Do I still need a service?
Yes, and that is exactly when it is worth doing. Servicing a working door is cheap and quick. Attending a door that has already failed is neither. The door "working fine" only tells you it has not broken yet, not that the springs and cables underneath are in good condition.
